Handmade Signs, and a Sale

I made this sign out of a door I took off a hutch to make it more open, and me being the ultimate recycler I saved it in my hoard umm pile of inspiration waiting to happen (that sounds a little better right?)

I also had some leftover bead board...although when I got finished it just looks like a bead board cabinet door, but of course it wasn't that simple I actually built it (my point being I want the credit, ha ha).

I got the saying from Pinterest, I liked it because I feel like the Cottage is all about making your house a home or nest as it says...

I wanted to share because we are putting all our signs, and wooden block signs(more on these below) on sale this weekend at the Cottage...

I  got the idea for this one from a customer, I made it in vinyl for her to put on the soffit in her kitchen...

We have sold signs like this old window with "Pay Here" on it a few times, it is actually where you pay at the cottage, but we are happy to sell it, I'll just make another...

Here's just a few more we have...

And now for our adorable wooden blocks, how cute are these?  My sister and niece made them, they even cut the blocks and made the words on the Cricut.  I just love them.  I'm pretty sure I need to find a spot in my house for one.

So if your local come on down and pick up an original hand made one of kind sign...I mean they're on sale after all...

Thanks much for stoppin' by

"Masculine" Black Empire Dresser

post by Katie

This was another garage sale find, it was a little rough with the veneer bubbling and coming off in places, but the drawers worked good, and the price was right, so I loaded it up.

I have yet to experience easy veneer removal, so it was kind of a long process, I just preyed off what I could, then soaked and removed what I could with a putty knife.  I just kept doing that until all the veneer was gone.  It took about a week, working on it a little every day.  I don't know if this is the easiest method, but this is way my dad taught me so that's how I did it.

I searched empire dresser on Pinterest, and loved the black. so that's what I decided to do.

It came with plain silver knobs, about half way through I thought about using these handles.

It seemed sort of masculine to me(not that it wouldn't look good in a ladies bedroom, or maybe an entryway)so I printed the little labels as if it belonged to a gentleman back in the day.

Here is the before...

So that's pretty much it.  It's waiting for for it's gentleman in a vest and top hat to pick it up;)

Thanks so much for stoppin' by

Grain Sack Drop Leaf Table

I picked up this drop leaf table from a garage sale a few weeks back, actually it was my fourth grade teacher's garage sale pretty weird right?  She said she remembered me too, but I was painfully shy in grade school, so I'm thinking teacher's probably just say that, how can they possibly remember all their students.

Anyway it only took a few days to get inspired on this one.  I thought it is perfect for the trendy grain sack look that is so in right now, that I couldn't wait to get started.

I probably should have had some patience though because I used painter's tape for the lines, but upon removing it, it had bled under the tape and looked pretty terrible, so I had to go back and sand and paint, and wait and tape and a bit more carefully paint the stripes, AGAIN.

I'm not sure why it bled, but I had to buy more tape and maybe its was better or newer, I know I was more careful and used a dryer brush, but I actually thought I did that pretty good the first time, well anyway it turned out a little more perfect the second time around for whatever reason.

Here it is as it looked as Mrs, Richtor's...

And after...

Here it is with the leaves dropped...

How cute is it with my tub chairs...

It also has a leaf(not shown) so it makes out to 65" long.

Thanks for stoppin'
