Handmade Fall Decor

post by Katie

Before I get to my fall projects, I wanted to say a quick thanks to all our awesome customers who
"brought it" for our anniversary sale.  It was a really busy weekend and so much fun.  Thanks so much for showing up, we do it all for you.

And now for a few fall projects I made that I didn't get to post before the sale.  I saw This(she has a great tutorial on this) sign on Pinterest and loved it so I created my own version above.  I've had the board in my garage for awhile, I got it Goodwill, it had tole painted fruit in dark greens, reds, and browns, and when I distressed it, it really worked with what I painted on it.

I also made a couple small fall signs...

I made stencils with the Cricut, and bought some craft paint in fall colors.

Have you noticed all the neutral holiday decor lately, like burlap or painted pumpkins in neutral colors, so simple, subtle and pretty, and Pottery Barn.  That's what inspired me the minute I saw this little turkey at Goodwill I had to take it home and try painting it white.  I wasn't even really sure it would work, but it did, beautifully.

Here it is before...

I also made a few burlap bunting banners(say that 10 times fast, oh wait it's not that hard).  again I made stencils on the Cricut and stenciled the letters on the little burlap triangles I cut, hot glued them on some twine and done. I kinda want to keep them.

Our Biggest Sale Ever...& a Mistake

That's right I made a mistake(ok it's not really all that uncommon) I sent out my post on
my Schoolhouse Desk before it was actually finished, so if you happened to see that post please take a moment to see it in it's entirety, here's the link. Not sure what happened, just lost my head for a moment, have I mentioned I'm new to this blogging thing, whatever move on.

I wanted to talk about our Anniversary sale this weekend, we're super excited it's gonna be a huge celebration at the Cottage.  For the first time ever, everything will be on sale, even furniture.  We really never put furniture on sale because our prices are our prices and we don't really price things so we can put them on sale, so we think it's a pretty big deal.

It's the perfect time to stop by, the Cottage is all dressed for fall, and we have a huge inventory of painted furniture, and unique home decor.  Ya see we have to get it all inside for the winter, so we need to move some pieces.

We'll be giving away a set of chalkboard labeled antique ball jars to a lucky winner

and  a free gift from Graceful Rose Soap Co. just for showing up.

We'll be making some fall flavored goodies, I've been telling everyone we'll have cider, but apparently it's going to 90 degrees, so I may come up with some kind of cold fall drink, any ideas?

Hope to see you there!

Schoolhouse Desk with Chalkboard Details

post by katie

Well last week was back to school at our house, so I thought it an appropriate time to post about a desk I recently finished.  I got it at a garage sale over the summer, and decided it had to be red.  I've been making alot of chalkboard labels lately so it made me think a little red desk must have some chalkboard details.

At first I was just going to add the large one on the top for jotting down little notes,

but I thought the top drawer needed something too, so I added one there

then decided to paint the plain little knobs that came on it with chalkboard paint and add numbers.

What do you think...perfect for a classroom, or homework station right?
It's at the Cottage now.

We're having our big anniversary celebration this weekend.  Everything will be on sale, come by and have some cider while you shop.

Thanks for stoppin'

The Cottage...Dressed for Fall

We're gearing up for our huge Anniversary sale next weekend, yep 12 years ago we started painting furniture, so it's time to celebrate.

In preparation we brought fall to the Cottage, lots of burlap pumpkins, mercury glass, and hand-painted fall signs.  Get first pick this weekend.  Garage sale season was kind to us, so the cottage is loaded with one of a kind, unique furniture and decor.

If you've never been to the cottage now is the time, we're having our biggest sale yet.  there will be a drawing for a set of chalkboard labeled antique Ball jars, and a give-away just for showing up.  We'll also have cider and homemade goodies.

A Good Time at the Fair

So we had to cancel the Camas Vintage Market do to illnesses, but we did make it to The Oregon City Open Air Antique Fair.  I managed to take a few pics...

Here's a few of our booth...

We handed out little mustache props saying "You really mustache to The Shabby Cottage" as a way of advertising the Cottage.

We had alot of fun takings pics of our photo prop mustaches...

I can't remember the last time it rained but it is Oregon after all so of course the rain came...

We also handed out over 300 flyers announcing our upcoming events at the cottage.  More details on those events coming.

All in all we had a good day at the fair.
